My Latest Skincare Saviors

For the past 6 months or so, I have been struggling with breaking out. I have never really had issues with my face so this is something I wasn't used to. I was buying everything and anything that said it would work for acne, getting facials regularly and nothing was really working. I went to the doctor for my annual and she said a lot of it is hormonal because I turned 30 this year so maybe getting on birth control would help. A long with getting on birth control, there are few other things that are finally getting my face under control.

-Water: I went back to drinking at least 6-8 bottles of water each day. It is helping tremendously! Whenever I don't drink enough water, I can see the evidence in my skin.

-Birth Control: I have only been back on birth control for the past 7 days but I already see a difference. I haven't really had any new breakouts. I know my hormones are severely out of wack due to age and also from competing. I went on a high level of estrogen to help both with my skin and to help balance my hormones for weight loss as well.

-Hydrocortisone and a jade roller: When I went to get a facial the last time, the esthetician recommended using hydrocortisone on the bumps and then doing a facial massage with a jade roller Hydrocortisone can be found at any drugstore and it is an anti-inflammatory agent, so using that along with the cooling properties of the jade roller helps reduce the inflammation that is causing raised bumps on your face.

-Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum: I have been using this as a spot treatment on any dark spots I have from former pimples that I had extracted. It is helping so much. I was so worried that all these dark spots on my face were going to be permanent but after using this for two weeks most of the spots are already gone. Just be careful to only put it on the spots because it will lighten the area you put it on.

-MaryKay Clearproof Acne Wash: This face wash has 2% salicylic acid in it. It keeps my pores clear without drying out my skin. My mom sells Mary Kay so I can get these cleansers from her but you can get it online or from any Mary Kay sales person you know.

-Kate Somerville Eradikate: This is a acne spot treatment similar to the Mario Badescu drying lotion (but much cheaper and found at Sephora). It has a clear liquid on the top layer and a pink layer at the bottom that has calamine lotion in it. You aren't supposed to mix or shake them together. You just stick your q-tip through both layers and place it on currents spots you have on your face. It dries up the bumps overnight. Small bumps will be gone in a night and bigger bumps will take a little longer. It works really well.

I hope these products, help your skin too! Have a wonderful weekend!!

Keeping Up With This Crazy Thing Called Life

Let me preface this by saying, I am definitely not perfect and a lot of days I feel like I need a do-over because it seems like nothing is going right. When someone asks me how I am doing, usually my response is good but really busy. Most days I am doing three million and one things and my days are really long. It's tough have kids with extremely busy schedules that have you running across town all day every day, but there are ways to get things done. I'm going to share with you some of the things that help me stay organized with this crazy schedule I have.

-Everything is better with a plan!
Of course things won't always fit the plan but it is best to write down or type in (if you use a digital calendar) your schedule for the current and upcoming weeks. Include everything you possibly can, school plays, workouts, sports practice, date night etc... Visually seeing my schedule for the next days helps me mentally prepare and stay focused on what needs to get done.

-Fit it in, when you can.
If you are waiting for the perfect opportunity to get things done, you won't get to accomplish anything. I'm all about multitasking and using my time as best as I can. I'll do my devotion in the car, while waiting to pick up Tayden or while waiting for T's soccer practice to start. Sometimes if I wasnt able to get a run in earlier in the day, I'll do a 45 minute run (while pushing Tayden) during the first half of soccer practice. While it may not feel like the ideal situation, don't be scared to make your schedule work for you and not the other way around.

-Cut Out The Extra.
For me, my schedule is pretty full. I have goals and things I want to accomplish so when I have free time, I am working on a blog, coming up with new ideas, or something to that effect. I don't spend hours watching all the hot new tv shows or etc... Yes its great to have down time, but sometimes you have to prioritize and determine whats really important.

-Cut yourself Some Slack.
Everything won't always go perfect and you have to be ok with that. Don't beat yourself up about it. Reasses, reschedule, and remember tomorrow is a new day. If you get stressed out and bring that into the next day, it'll just start a negative cycle that is going to distract you from accomplishing what you want to accomplish.

Hope these tips help you plan your days and get stuff done! Ill be posting more soon!

The Dream Chaser!

As you may know from social media, the hubby's new book "The Dream Chaser" just released this past Monday 10/31/16. I read his book during the editing process and even though it may seem biased but this book is amazing! After reading it, I was really inspired. It motivated me to get on my grind and start actively pursuing more of my goals and dreams.

It is available on Amazon here: http://bit.ly/2eM9OdY. It is also available at Barnes and Noble (online and in store).
If you get it and read it, please let me know what you think. I am sure you will love it!

Some Tips On Parenting

If you follow me on any social media forum, you know I have two boys. T (Tony III) who is 9 and Tayden who is 2 1/2. This post is going to be more about T, not because I don't think Tayden doesn't have these same qualities but he is just so young so most of these things don't apply to him as of yet.

T is by no means no perfect. He will get in trouble every now and then for talking in class or just being a boy but he is one of the most well rounded kids I know. He goes to a college prep school and gets straight A's. Not only straight A's but almost perfect grades. Out of 12  grades, 8 are 100's, 1 is a 99, 1 is a 98, and 2 96's. He has won the regional spelling bee three years in a row. He plays the trumbone and plays chess. He plays Pop Warner football, travel/competitive soccer, and basketball. He loves the Lord and and is very respectful. He says yes ma'am, yes sir to everyone he meats. So when I say well rounded that's what I mean.

Of course every kid is different but I think there are some core things that help him be successful at life.

Structure: As much as you want to be the cool parent and your kids best friend, your child will flourish with structure. They may resist and not like it first but once they adjust, you will see a change. That structure provides stability and when kids have something they can trust to be a constant it helps them tremendously.

Active Parenting: TV and video games cannot raise your kids. I am by no means one of those moms that says oh an hour of tv a day is all my kids can watch etc. I am saying that if your kids are watching tv, make sure you know what they are watching. T rarely gets to watch TV during the week because of his busy schedule but when he does, it's a movie, sports, or he watches what his little brother watches on TV. And he is only allowed to play video games on the weekend but its in limited portions at a time. He is one of the few kids that'll choose to play outside with his friends when he gets free time rather than sitting in front of the tv all day.

Tell Them Why: Your kids are smarter than you think they are. Just saying no without an explanation or reason just makes them want to rebel. I explain to T why he cant do certain things and explain to him the consequences of things he wants to do. And because he understands and it makes sense, he doesnt fight me or try to rebel.

Tough Love: I am really strict with T with certain things like respect but I am also extremely loving and rewarding. It is really important to find the balance between the two. Because of how much I do for T and the love I show them, when I discipline him he understands its because I care and he chooses to listen and make changes because of that.

I am not a perfect parent and I am learning as I go, but these are few tips that have helped me so far.

Best Jeans to Look Slim

If you're like me and are not at your ideal weight it's important to find jeans that you feel good in and look good in. I don't like shopping for clothes when I don't feel comfortable but I obviously have to get dressed every day lol.

I found these jeans and they are not the cheapest pair of jeans but they actually work. They are black (because black makes everything better lol) high waisted, and a good thickness so they suck everything in at all the right places lol. I get mine at Neiman Marcus but I am sure you could find them at the store website as well.

They are the Seven of Mankind Slim Illusion Luxe Black Jeans.  Let me know if you try and them what you think. I am pretty sure I own 4 or 5 of these lol.

How to Deal With A Spouse that Travels Alot

I am sure many of you know my husband travels quite a bit with his job. Some seasons are busier than others but at its peak he can be gone for a few weeks at a time or gone 5 days out of most weeks. A lot of women I meet and some write in asking about how I handle him being gone. Here are few things I do to help and hopefully they help you too!

1. Appreciate the time you do spend together. We literally are best friends and we try to hang out and spend as much as time as we can when he is home. We try to go on a date night at least once a week and we get dressed up and take it seriously. When you are with someone who travels a lot, cherishing the time you spend together makes all the difference!

2. Stay in contact but don't be a nag. We talk a lot via text or on the phone when we can when he is on the road. I always keep in mind that he is traveling for work and he is busy. I appreciate the time he can make for us to talk when he is on his work trips but I am not blowing up his phone out of insecurity or jealousy.

3. Focus on what he is doing versus what he isn't. Don't forget that your partner being away is to help pay your bills and keep your food on the table. So the next time you think to complain about him/her traveling, remind yourself of the opposite. You could be spending every waking second together with no money for your family.

4. Stay busy. If he is gone on a really long trip, I keep myself busy. I might do a DIY project at the house, spend extra time at the gym, or plan a lot of activities with the kids. If this is a part of your regular life, you cant be depressed and stop living because they are gone. Miss them but use it as a time to be productive as well.

Hope some of these tips help you.

2016 Fall Trends

With Fall upon us or fast approaching for us in Florida where most days still feel summer, I thought I would share some of the trends for this season. Most are pretty standard and expected but one I think is a fun injection of color that most people may not expect.

Different shades of tan, from light to camel are all in this season.

Plaid coats were seen all over the runways for Fall 2016

Navy coats are considered a staple for Fall this year. I love navy, its a nice change up from black.

Hello 90's, chokers are here to stay (at least for now)

Turtlenecks under dresses is a cool trend for this season. When it's done right, it can look extremely chic!
A fun trend this season is dusty rose and yellow. Most people wouldn't expect for this fall but when done in warmer clothing it just works.

What trends are you excited to inject into your wardrobe?

Your Words Are Important

A friend of mine and I are both going through similar effects from fitness competing. We both are struggling to lose weight due to hormone issues among other things. It's very stressful and depressing and we would talk to each other about it because other people don't understand and expect that we just must be over eating or something. Lately, we have been talking a lot about changing our words and our thinking.
If you read the bible then you may recall Proverbs 18:21, that talks about life and death are in the power of tongue. It's crazy how speaking positively about situations you are dealing with can change your outlook and subsequently change your outcome. I am not perfect and I still struggle each day, but I am constantly trying to remind myself that being sad or upset about something does nothing to help the situation.

How You Can Start:

1. Write down your positive affirmations. (Write down positive things that you want to accomplish or characteristics you want to obtain as if they have already happened) Place them in areas you will see each day, so that you can constantly remind yourself of what you are speaking upon your life.

2. When you wake up, think of 2-3 things you are thankful. It doesn't how big or small they are. When you focus on all you have to be thankful of, it leaves less room for your negativity.

3. Set mini goals. Sometimes we set these big huge goals that will take a year to accomplish and then get frustrated because it seems if we aren't reaching them. Set mini goals (maybe every week), accomplishing these goals will keep you motivated and you will feel happy to have accomplished something you set out to do.

4. Stay consistent. The more you do things they become normal for you. Practice being positive and it'll become a habit. You got this!

You deserve greatness, sometimes we dont realize we are the ones holding us back!

Relationship 101: Embrace Your Differences

The other day, the hubby and I were talking about how we are almost the complete opposites in almost everything but somehow contrary to what people would think our relationship works and works beautifully.

Of course in the things that matter, we agree. We both have the same religious beliefs, raise our kids the same way, and we believe in the same moral principles in life. But in about everything else we are different. Tony is really quiet in person and I am a social butterfly. I love to dance and will dance the whole night away and Tony will gladly watch me from the table lol. He can speak in front of hundreds of people and public speaking makes me cringe. I love lifting weights and working out, he has to force himself to do that stuff. When we go to a restaurant, my plate will be full of lots of different kinds of veggies and his full of meat. Besides eating Jamaican food, I really could be a vegetarian.

The question people tend to ask when they hear that, is how does that work then? We were talking about it one day and came up with this. The key is to not go into a relationship trying to change the other person. If the important things that matter are the same, then appreciate their differences and embrace them. Tony is cool with me dancing the night away, he will dance a song if I ask him too, but I dont expect him to cut the rug all night with me. If we are eating something different (I love trying all different kinds of food, think its the island in me), he will try whatever I ask him to try but I dont expect him to love it all the time and I wont force him to eat it if he doesnt. When you truly love someone for who they are, you embrace everything about them and you learn to love the things that make them unique. While Tony may not be a social butterfly, at home he is honestly a comedian and it's pretty cool that only people really close to us get to see that special side of him.

Don't get into a relationship expecting to be with someone that is an exact clone of you. Similarites are great but differences can lead to learning and experiencing different things with that person that you may have never gotten to experience. When its that agape love (that God centered love), there are no superficial differences that really matter.

Favorite Bath and Shower Products

I'm sorry I have missed a couple days of posting, I am a little under the weather but I am trying to fight through it because I refuse to be sick right now lol. When I feel like this or even just had a not so fun day, I like to spend a few extra minutes pampering myself in the shower or bath for a fresh start. I'm not sure if it's just mental but I really feel like it lifts my spirits and changes my mood.

Here are some of my favorite things right now:

-Bath Soaks/Salts: this is just a brand I picked up from Marshall's and really any brand will do. I've repurchased this one because it really does help when I am sore from training. It has three different essential oils so it really soothes and relaxes you at the same time.

-Bath bombs: I feel like no bath is complete without a bath bomb. I have some from Lush and I love them. They have tons of different flavors and they all have different uses. Go check them out, I am sure you can find something you love.

-Soapy Faith soaps: I was sent these soaps and fell in love with them. Not only do they have the dopest concept and each of the soaps I sent were part of the fruits of the spirit line. One is love and the other is faith. They have coconut oil in them so your body feels moisturized after you use them. And of course, I love them because they are hypoallergenic so kids with eczema can use them. My oldest has eczema so it's always nice to find products that he can use as well. If you want to check out the soaps they have been kind enough to offer you guys a discount code for 20% off your entire purchase. Use the code: SGASKINS16 at checkout.

-Lush hot hand mask: I received this in a gift box for my birthday and I had to go purchase another one. So often we forget to give our hands the TLC they need. And after lifting weights, numerous loads of laundry, and dishes, my hands can use all the TLC they can get. I promise you, your hands will feel so moisturized and you will want to make this part of your new pamper routine.

So if your feeling a little blah and need a pick me up, try a nice hot bath with some of these items and I know you will feel better right away!

You gotta Faith It until you Make It

Sometimes it's not a lack of ideas or creativity that keep our goals and dreams at bay, it's a lack of faith. We always start out believing the best will happen and everything will work out but after a few disappointments or set backs that faith starts to waver. The fear of failure is so strong that it trumps our faith.

In order to be successful, you must have FAITH. All the dreams in the world won't do anything without an ounce of faith. If you don't truly believe in yourself, how can you expect anyone else to believe in you or your ideas. When you work really hard and believe in yourself, a sub par idea can look even better than it is.

Faith isn't just a noun it's an action. Faith is moving forward with your ideas even without the support of other people. Faith is knocking down doors until someone answers. Faith is hearing a million no's just to get one yes.

I am sure many of you know my husbands story but if not here is an example of faith mixed with hard work. I watched him work so hard and the faith he has makes amazing things happen. He wrote his first book and of course no one really knew anything about him or his book. He thought he would be making millions of dollars from this book and realized shortly it doesnt work like that. He believed in himself and didnt give up hope. While still going to his day job every day, he would submit himself to different schools day in and day out, until he got speaking engagements to come speak for free. He didnt stop there, he knew he wanted to be on Oprah. I watched him every day for a year, email into their producers until he finally got a call. Did you read that? Every day for a year! How many of you could keep going after not hearing back for more than 6 months? That's the kind of faith it takes. It means believing in yourself so much that you are willing to do more than the normal and not stopping until you reach your goals. And finally after a year, he got a call from a producer and was brought in to do the Oprah show and shortly after that the Tyra Banks show followed.

For all of you that are sitting on amazing dreams or talents, dont give up on yourself. Trust God, work really hard, and have faith that can move mountains and great things will happen!!!

You have to believe in you!

My Style

In my opinion, style is all about being true to yourself and wearing what makes you happy. For some people that's a lot of color and eccentric pieces or vintage finds from vintage boutiques. I am finally at an age where I no longer care to impress people if it doesn't make me happy.

My style is very basic and consists of a lot of neutral pieces. I am very much a jeans and t-shirt type of girl (most days). I just add different things to spice up outfits. It's more of a tomboy chic type look. I love using accessories to change up the whole outfit. A banging red lip can change a day outfit to a night one with one swipe. Some dope sneakers can make a somewhat dressy outfit look trendy and more casual. And we all know a dope bag can make leggings and a t-shirt look like a planned outfit. Any outfit you wear with confidence is the perfect outfit. People can feel the confidence you exude and it can make anything you wear look purposeful and on trend.

Some of my fashion inspirations that reflect my style at the moment are Sarah Harris (fashion features director for British Vogue) and Faith Haslem (wife of Udonis Haslem). I love how Sarah puts different spins on jean outfits and looks chic and stylish every time. And I love how Faith mixes different pieces together, breaks rules, and always looks super trendy.

Sarah Harris:

Faith Haslem:

I encourage you to wear pieces that make you happy and rock it with confidence!

Picture Tour of Tayden's Room

Tayden is 2 and a 1/2 now and almost ready for a big boy room. If you follow me on snapchat then you already know this (if not you should be following me lol), but when he was a little over 1 he figured out how to climb out of his crib. Back then we had one of the lower modern cribs. He wasn't ready for a big boy bed so we gave his modern crib to my niece and bought him one of the traditional high back cribs. We turned the crib backwards with the high side facing out and the low side against the wall and he hasn't climbed out since. So that has been prolonging his big boy room progress which I am totally ok with. I wanted to share a picture tour of his room before I change it because I know a lot of people on snapchat love my home snaps.

We had the contractors smooth out the texture of the wall and add a chalkboard for him to draw on. He loves it! We put in a shelve that only we can reach with the chalk.
Above that is his shelf of vintage goodies. I got the vintage elephant and Noah's ark set from an estate sale. The brown box holds a birth certificate holder with mini holders for his hair and first tooth. They were passed down to Tayden from a friend who had them for her kids. I love infusing modern with vintage touches.
This shelf has been added to since his 1st birthday party. The blue doesn't really go with his room but  I wanted to save his memories from his first birthday. Behind the dog is a picture of when I was pregnant with him. And the little printable is really cute and talks about the rules of being a little man.

This is the high back crib I was talking about. I got the decals from urban walls decals and I put some on the crib to help tie everything in.
His changing table is basic, nothing really special. It was the same line as the modern crib. I use a label maker to label everything. He also has clear drawer bins in the closet for more storage. I use this Ikea kitchen cart for his body products, extra wipes, and extra pullups. And I use the Summer baby monitor and I really like it.
This little cube is from Ikea and stores extra skin care items and things we don't use very day. I think the bins are from Target. The sign here is his 2nd birthday sign from his party and we use the Crane humidifier in his room.
This is his reading nook. He loves to read books. He either sits in the lion chair and "reads" to himself or we sit in that white rocking chair and read him books. The ottoman stores his extra sheets and any books that don't fit in his book shelf. The lion was his brothers from a friend, the ottoman was from Home Goods, and I cant remember where the rocking chair was from.
These are some of his books, he loves being able to see them and pick which one he wants to read before the bed. Some of his books are in the playroom as well.
I wanted to show you guys these cute toddler shoe racks. I got them from the Container store and think they are absolutely adorable. The blue ones are elephants and the  green one is a frog. These make it easier for him to clean up his shoes and also get them himself when we are headed out.

I hope you all enjoyed getting a peak into Tayden's room. I plan to blog more home stuff from different areas in the house soon.

Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail!

Our weeks are always really busy so my Sundays afternoons are usually spent getting organized and planning for the next week. If you are trying to lose weight and get back in shape like I am, I think its really important to plan out your workouts and meals for the upcoming next week. I am a very visual person and I am old school in the sense that I like to write things out. I make a simple word document/chart for the month that I can fill in each week as I figure out my schedule. Of course things happen and every workout may not always happen but there is a much higher chance of me getting it done when I am looking at the chart every day.

I do the same thing for my meals. I have been loving the prepackaged food from Fit Life Foods for my dinners.
                    My daily meals are usually:
Breakfast: Oatmeal or Granola and Flax Cereal
                    Lunch: Shake
                    Dinner: Fit Life Foods Meal
Healthy snacks in between each meal: fruits, oatmeal balls, hummus and veggies, etc...

Every day won't be perfect, so if you eat something you hadn't planned on eating or didn't get your workout in that day, don't beat yourself up about it. Look at your schedule, refocus, and start fresh the next day.

Even though its Monday, if you haven't planned for the rest of the week, get on it now. Plan to make the rest of the week great!

Lets get it!

#SGDoes30 (birthday party pics)

I know, I know, this will be the last post about the 30th birthday party. A lot of people were requesting pictures of the setup and the venue, so I wanted to oblige and actually post them this time. I know I've said I will post pictures of the boys' parties and I don't end up posting them (which I plan to post soon).

Let me give you some background of what I wanted for the party. I really wanted it to feel like a secret location and for people to feel like they were in a different city when they walked into the building. It took a while but I found the venue and I think it was everything I was looking for. It used to be a theater a long time ago and was gutted and turned into an event venue. It has concrete floors and original exposed brick on the back wall. It was extremely massive and just an empty canvas for us to work.

Ever since our trip to London, I've loved the colored doors you see so often there. I couldn't be happier that my party was behind these beautiful blue doors!

What you saw upon walking in.

The exposed brick wall, my beautiful arch, and the dj; straight back from the entrance.

If you know me, you know black and white is my thing so only fitting that the tables for eating had beautiful black and white stripes, glitter faux candles, and gold confetti that spelled out thirty on the tables.

I love, loved my dessert table. I mixed blush, gold, and black and white for my dessert table and it came out beautiful!

We did passed appetizers and service stations so people could customize their pasta and stir fry how they like it. It was really a hit, people loved having their food cooked to order.

We had a photobooth using the exposed brick wall as a background. This is me and the hubby playing around in our picture.

The other side was a lounge area with vintage chairs and trunks. I love decorating with vintage touches even in my own home so it only made sense that I added it into my birthday decor. We had blush uplighting on the walls to add the blush into the decor even more.

Group photo in the beginning of the party on the brick wall in front of the arch. We also had cocktail tables with gold sequined linens and square vases with faux black roses.

The gift table with black pendant banner and SG letters that were blush with sparkly gold glitter.

Us walking into the venue, I was so happy to see all the decor and seeing a lot of our friends and family!

And last but not least, my snapchat filter for the night. It was so fun seeing everyone use the filter. A really nice touch!

Hope you guys enjoyed seeing a peak into my 30th birthday! I had so much fun and it was great getting to relive it again through pictures!
